Watching the United States Senate grill the nominees of the US president, this is serious stuff.
Senator Jeff Sessions for instance is set to be grilled for two days, at committee level, questions from every side of the US Senate, in fact a Senator named Cory Booker is due to testify against him tomorrow. This is no “bow an go” comedy show.
However what struck me was that the US is confirming the President’s nominees even before the President Trump takes his oath of office. This means the Trump administration hits the ground as they say….running.
I also cannot miss to note that the Ghanaian President has submitted his Ministerial list a week after his inauguration. Which calls to question the preparedness of Mr Buhari. It took The Nigerian President six month to submit a Ministerial list…Six months wasted trying to run the largest economy in Africa with a kitchen cabinet of Media Advisers, Chief of Staff and Permanent Secretary.
So lets make this a teachable moment…
- Lets ask our President deeper better questions and hold him to account
- When nominating Ministers to the NASS, ensure the President assigns portfolios to his nominees
- lets hold our congress to actually screen the nominees, “Bow and Go” is corruption
We can do better, much better….
