Its important the government is commended for resolving the dispute between Geometric and Enugu Distribution Company.
Geometric Power was the first Independent Power Plant (IPP) in Nigeria, This $500m plant, with a 27km gas pipeline, was designed to take Aba off the National grid, and deliver dedicated power to it. It had been held up by arguments over who “controls” the Aba Energy Market.
Understanding Nigeria cannot develop without power supply then This project in the last 10 years became the most important commercial project, not just in the South East but in Nigeria as it now becomes a model for power supply going forward.
Now we can see Lekki Peninsula or Kaduna Industrial Estate have similar Private IPP arrangements which put less pressure on The National Grid.
I cannot even write on how this will impact Abia or business in Aba, imagine in your minds eye a factory with 24/7 uninterrupted power supply….The Government of Abia has to take advantage of this and grow the already large SME base. So while we hold this government to account, its very important we commend them when we see these sort of success.
