The Super Falcons made three mistakes….

The Super Falcons made three mistakes

The background is that Nigeria female football team and Current African Champions, the Super Falcons won their eight African Football title, but are yet to get their bonus, players and coaches owed, the player are still at their Hotel in Abuja, in protest.

We have seen this movie over and over. The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) is biologically incapable of being competent, they have disagreement with everyone, Sponsors, Players, Coaches: Local and Foreign, even FIFA. The NFF got N1.2b from the Ministry of Sports in 2016 budget, this is exclusive of earning from sponsors, winning bonus etc, where is the money? Can’t Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) ask Central Bank of Nigeria to print cash as usual? But enough of the NFF, why is the FGN comfortable with the African Champions protesting unpaid allowances?

Back to the African Champions, the Super Falcons, they erred in three ways.

  1. They were born female; thus, they won’t be treated as equals to male footballers. Consider this, The male Super Eagles players received their flight ticket refunds, match bonus for the AFCON qualifier against Tanzania last month and other friendlies. It is estimated that each player received close to $8,000, yet the female Falcons as CHAMPIONS are languishing.
  2. The Falcons won a tournament in the wrong year. As a football team, its preferable to win a tournament during an election year, then the politicians will use you as a political prop and shower you with dollar bonus. I recall how then candidate Buhari visited the Abuja stadium to watch a football game, today?
  3. The Falcons didn’t win a religious tournament. If the Falcons had won a religious tournament, the CBN, would have given them subsidized dollars…but alas.

So, let’s cut the Sports Minister Mr Solomon Dalong some slack, he is incompetent, but the Falcons caused this…
