Why have all the Governors of the South East, the Senators and the Honorable elected by the people of the South East not gone to Nimbo in Uzo- Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State, to sit there, commensurate, and issue a world press conference on this new wave of terror in Nigeria?
Why have the Enugu State House of Assembly and all the Local Government Chairmen not visited?
Why?
If this was the wedding of the Governors daughter, would they not go? And invite the press to cover it?
The attacks in Nimbo did not happen suddenly, the denizens said the terrorist wrote them a letter, the Chairman of Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area, Cornell Onwubuya, said he had alerted Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and the state Commissioner of Police, Ekechukwu Nwodibo, of the threat. So what happened? Was a threat advisory issued by the State Government? Does the state government know what a threat advisory is?
When the Governor got the information what did he do? Who did he communicate with? What steps did he take to secure the town?
This is 2016, I googled Jumia, they have drones for sale…. Could the Governor not buy drones, with infra-red cameras and link them up to a monitoring center in Enugu where trained personal watch the live feeds and can alert the local vigilantes of impending
attacks?
How difficult is it to maintain security over an area with security votes that run into billions a year?
There is a failure of governance where a Government is warned of an attack, and the attack still take place….
There is a failure of governance when days after the attack, no official press statement with names and identities of the victims have been issued.
There is a failure of governance when the government has failed to communicate next step to its citizens, what should happen if today a farmer spots a large group of armed men in the forest? What protocols have been established?
Yes, Governors in Nigeria, you don’t control one soldier YES!, but you control the land, you can place solar powered motion activated CCTV camera in bush paths, you can place high pitched early warning sirens that warn the villagers, you can have a rapid response team of medical and security team ready to deploy in hours, these are not rocket science….
if your family were in an area Mr Governors and you heard a letter was written, that an attack will happen, what will you do? Call a meeting?
Mr Governors, you can’t provide security, then don’t collect security vote….
The Enugu State Governor has failed in this basic responsibility to protect lives and property in this specific instance, …if they remain a failure tomorrow up to them. The South East Governors have been insipid in their response to this crisis in particular, and cross border threats in general. more can be don’t to inform and advise and care for the people affected.
Leadership needs to be shown in these times….
